y-apple-custard-2What you need:

25 g custard powder

500 ml water

160 g sugar

a pinch of salt

3 whole cloves

3 cinnamon sticks

6 Granny Smith apples (or any firm apple)

125 g dates

cinnamon and ginger

25 g sultanas or currants

6 dollops butter

What you do:

Heat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.  Grease a 15 x 25 x 5 cm baking pan.

Dissolve the custard powder in 50 ml water.  Add the rest of the water, sugar, salt, cloves and cinnamon sticks to the custard powder.  Heat over medium heat to boiling point, stir often and cook for a few minutes.

Core and peel the apples.  Place apples in baking pan and fill holes with dates.  Pour warm custard sauce over apples.  Sprinkle with cinnamon, ginger and sultanas.  Place a dollop of butter on each apple and bake for 45 minutes.  Serve (don’t forget the YUM-smile) with custard, cream or ice cream.
